The 46th US Presidential Inauguration

What are your thoughts on this historic moment for America? For the world?

I haven’t really looked into the inauguration since I’m in Korea right now and hadn’t really given a deep thought about it at first, to be honest. However, after I had read articles and watched the news about the inauguration, I felt that it was particularly meaningful because a woman has been elected as part of the presidential ticket for the first time in the history of the United States. I believe that it is a really special and important moment that Kamala Harris had become the United States’ first Black — South Asian and first female vice president.

Why do you think the Interwebs were flooded with images of Bernie in his handmade mittens?

I think that the Interwebs were flooded with images of Bernie Sanders in his handmade mittens because I believe that his outfit and the way he is sitting (posture) doesn’t fit for the inauguration and may be described as inappropriate. I think it’s somewhat funny. Below is my favorite meme of Bern Mittens. I chose this as my favorite meme because I liked how Bernie went along well with the background.

Did you witness Lady Gaga’s performance live? What was your reaction and why do think her appearance significant to the moment?

I couldn’t watch Lady Gaga’s performance live, so I watched a video and really enjoyed it. I have never sung in front of such many people, but I have watched a lot of videos of singers singing the national anthem in front of a whole crowd. I have always thought that it is so meaningful and brave in some way. Lady Gaga seemed very powerful from my point of view and I also liked her outfit.

Chose one or two lines from the poem that has particular resonance for you and write an analysis on your blog.

The line I chose from the poem is:

“We close the divide because we know, to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside.
We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another.
We seek harm to none and harmony for all.”

The reason I chose this is because I liked how the poem tells us that we should all get along well with each other no matter how different we are. I liked how the words were expressed and the words were really touching for me.
